3 Common defects on low quality lamp post
Paint peeling
After a period of use and installation, some lampposts have the phenomenon of paint peeling on the lighting pole surface. This defect pretty much affects on lamp post quality as well as it’s aesthetic.
Extreme weather condition
The firstly reason stems from the weather condition. The outdoor lamp post is often exposed to different kind of weather such as raining, sunny, storm, snow, etc.
Over time, temperature and humidity impact on the lighting post paint layer, change the bonds between the molecules in the paint and reduce the paint’s adhesion to the lamppost surface. Hence, leading to the paint to bulge, and peel off the surface.
Low quality paint
In order to protect the lamppost from weather effects, the manufacturer often coats the surface finish by paint layers.
However, many manufacturers chase the lower cost, they use the paints that are not of origin and of poor quality. In addition, many foundries don’t have much expertise, so they choose paints that are not suitable for the lamp post material. These reasons also create paint peeling issues overtimes.
Short production time
Another reason is the production time is too short and the coating has not adhered enough to the lighting post surfaces yet, but it already has been put into use in outdoor environments.
Poor surface processing technique
Furthermore, a common defect on lamppost manufacture resulting to the paint peeling is at the surface processing.
Normally, after roughcasting is collected, it will go through the machining the surface finish. With defects and holes on the lighting post surface, the foundries apply the welding technique to fill the metals into the missing points on the surface.
However, to minimize the cost product some manufactures use putty to fill in concave positions, create a smooth surface for the lamp post pole. Using the putty is advantageous by the cheap price, easy technique, but it is not durable. Over time, the putty layer will be peel off and affected on the topcoat paint.

Rust/Corrosive Surface
As mentioned above, the manufacturer uses qualified paints combined with meticulous surface machining to create a smooth and shiny lighting post surface that is visible to the eyes.
Thanks to this coating and surface processing technique, the surface is well protected. Despite being subjected to the effects of weather and external factors, it is difficult to scratch the lamppost finish.
But some manufacturers coat with low-quality paint and poorly machines on the lighting post surface. Consequently, the product looks very bad, the exterior is undulating, and the finish is not smooth. Over time, the lamppost faces rust, scratch, and corrode affecting the aesthetic of the lighting fixture and landscape.

To solve this problem, you can use the shot blasting machine to clean the surface of Lamp post, then you can repaint it.
Warping, cracking, broken
Another poorly lamp post quality is warping, cracking and broken defects after installed in use.
The lamppost is often much heavy. Some even weigh more than a hundred kilograms. Therefore when the outdoor lighting post is degraded, it is extremely unsafe for the people around them.
This defect comes from the bad in put materials together with poor manufacturing ability.

European EN 40 standard, ISO 8995-1:2002(E)/CIE S 008/E:2001 and CIE S 015/E:2005 are the three international standards popular applied in the lamppost manufacturing process and determined the lamp post quality.
To decide the lighting post quality, you must take in account these following criteria:
- Material input: The material of the lamppost also must meet the prescribed measurement standards. They are required for rigidity, pressure & extreme weather resistance.
- Anti-rust/corrosion: The lamppost is placed outside, often exposed to external factors. So it is pretty significant to take into account its rust/ corrosion resistance.
- Durability: A long-lasting and low maintenance will cost-effective and money-saving.
