Casting steel grades

VIC steel foundry has possibility to manufacture casting parts from carbon steel and low alloy steel.

Carbon cast steel

Carbon steel is an alloy containing two main components: iron (Fe) and carbon (C), in addition, carbon steel also contains other auxiliary substances such as Manganese (maximum 1.65%), Silicon (max. 0.6%) and Bronze (maximum 0.6%).

Carbon content in steel is inversely proportional to ductility and directly proportional to its hardness and strength. That means the higher the carbon content, the harder the steel to bend.  The lower the carbon content, the more flexible and durable the steel is. At the same time, the carbon content in steel increases also leads to a decrease in the melting point of the steel.

Carbon steel classifies into 3 main types that are low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel.

Alloy steel

Alloy steel is type of steel that in addition to carbon, it contains alloying elements in a certain proportion. Common alloy elements can name Cr, Ni, Mn, Si, W, V, Co, Mo, Ti, Cu, etc. They are intentionally added in a certain amount (1.0% and 50%) to change the structure and properties of steel. Depend on different elements and percentage of these elements in steel, a various steel alloy classes are created.

Classification according to amount of alloy element in steel, it includes two main types:

        – Low alloy steel: the total amount of alloying elements is less than 8%.

        – High alloy steel: the total amount of alloying elements is more than > 8%.

Both of these two alloy steel has more excellent mechanical properties in comparing to carbon steel.

Additionally, by adjusting the alloy element to steel, we can collect the desire properties. The below table shows off the effect of adding element to steel in a certain proportion.

Our steel casting process

VIC invests and develops in sand casting steel and lost foam casting lines that allow to cast most of carbon steel and low steel alloy products.

At our steel foundry, there are 6 sand casting lines including 5 green sand casting area and 1 furan resin casting line. Additional, we also have 1 lost foam casting line to process high precise and smooth casting requests.

Besides, we also invest CNC machines for turning, lathe, drilling casting steel parts serving various customer demands.
